Vans Skatepark

Stunning indoor/outdoor skatepark that is part of the huge Vans store in downtown Orange County. This is basically a huge warehouse so filled with skateparkery that it’s ridiculous to try and give every detail. But here we go…

The skatepark is broken down into four main sections:

Street: just a monster! So full of fast, smooth awesomeness. Banks of all shapes, sizes and angles. Perfectly placed transitions scattered throughout and of course rails, hubba’s, boxes and stairs all over the place. The vast range of shapes and sizes means its great for skaters of all ages and skills, and the sections are cleverly grouped to suit. Theres even a cracking little 3ft mini hidden around the back. It’s all epic.

Mini: A beautifully transitioned 6ft wooden construction with a couple of extensions that just hit vert. Once again the surface is beautiful and fast and the coping is slightly chunky but sits nicely. At about 80ft wide this is close perfect for this kind of ramp, so much room to maneuver and play around. Oh and one of the extensions also has chunky pool style coping.

Bowl: Trusty old school style cement pool with two levels. The shallow end starts at 6ft with a quick transition. The and deep end sinks to around 10ft. The coping matches the pool style roots and the surface is blisteringly fast. A solid skate.

Outdoor street: a smaller cement street section sits just outside the warehouse if you want to bask in the glorious Californian sun. It’s a basic setup with a…

Apart from the obvious awesomeness of this place it’s worth noting just how well maintained it is. Every surface is slick and fast. The entire operation is first class and this is a must see skatepark.

There’s a range of vantage points from which to view all the action as well as heaps of vending and game machines. Restrooms and lockers so you can really settle in here for a full day. The adjoining vans store is huge and full of Skateboarding booty to check out. It’s all part of a much larger shopping mall so there’s tonnes of parking, food and amenities around.

Skatelab Skatepark

Skatelab is not just a skatepark, it’s a homage to all things skateboarding. From the second you walk through the door you are surrounded by hundreds maybe thousand of previously thrashed decks that fill every available space on the walls and ceiling. Each deck representing a small piece of some skater’s journey… and also the broader story if skateboarding itself. Very inspiring and that’s just the hallway! keep walking and you arrive at an epic warehouse filled to the brim with awesomeness.

The park itself is broken up into 3 main areas; The small room, The big room and outdoor minis. The small room features a smattering of 3-5ft transitions and banks around the perimeter (including an epic vert wall ride) that all circle around a central flat that is littered with movable rails and boxes. At the far end there’s also a pyramid funbox that has a bunch of rails and ledges to slide and grind. This area has more of a street feel to it and the slick surfaces (painted blue) are fast and well maintained.

The main (big) room is immediately recognisable as its been featured in movies, commercials and even has it’s own TechDeck set! but its not for the feint at heart. A series of larger banks, roll-ins and transitions all perfectly positioned and lightning fast make up the main arena. The far end is home to a cracking pool-style bowl with beautiful transitions that start at 5ft in the shallow and hit 7-8ft in the deep. Rounding it all off is a monster wall ride that slingshots back down into the main arena and links it all up beautifully. Again the surfaces are impeccable and all the lips and coping are well looked after.

Head outside and you’ll find a couple of wooden mini’s. The day we were there only the small one was open, it’s about 2-half feet tall and its perfect for younger skaters just learning the basics of transition skateboarding. The surface and coping were a tad worn but that only added to the experience. It reminded me of some of the backyard mini’s I skated back in the day. The large coping is very forgiving so it’s great for learning those early lip tricks and rock-to-fakie’s

But wait, there’s more! Upstairs you’ll also find the Skateboarding Hall of Fame which has a mind blowing collection of skateboarding artefacts that capture the history of Skateboarding. Everything from early home made decks, toys and shoes through to trophies and used pro-decks from some of the greatest.

Apart from being a mecca for skateboarding there is also a pro-shop here that has all the supplies you’d need if something went wrong and the staff here are wonderfully helpful and happy to share a story or two about the Skatelab journey. There’s plenty of free parking, free Wi-fi and a well positioned lounge area for relaxing that all add up to make this one of the best skateparks we’ve been to. A must see!

Camarillo Skatepark

So Camarillo Skatepark is a little strange in that was once an free public facility but due to some vandalism it has become a fenced-off-pay-as-you-go skatepark. Prices are very reasonable though at $5 for a day pass (or $20 annually  for locals) I guess that is just to cover the cost of some dude sitting there all day making sure everything is ok… who knows.

Once inside, the skatepark itself is a little battered and worn (there’s even some cement rot) however the setup is pretty solid starting with a decent sized end-to-end street course that features 5ft transitions and banks at one end, a central funbox with a tonne of grindable/slidable edges, some hubba’s and a couple of pyramid humps. At the other end is a series of deliciously wide stairs, a couple of banks and a long slow handrail slow. The highlight tho is the cracking 5ft bowl that rounds out the setup. Its a rather broad and open affair, but it features beautifully slow transitions and so much lip you’d think it was a teenager… boom tish! It’s pretty fun and perfect for a lazy jam, well worth the $5 entry.

There’s plenty of parking right beside the skatepark and some epic grassy parklands surrounding… even a public swimming pool. If that doesn’t seal the deal there’s also a some solid BBQ facilities.

Camarillo Skatepark is part of the Pleasant Valley Recreation & Park District, so is also known as the Pleasant Valley Skatepark.

Fillmore Skatepark

Sitting just on the outskirts of downtown Filmore is this newish skatepark that’s an interesting mix of street and ramp.

The setup is dominated by a large scattering of street style bits and pieces that includes all kinds of boxes, ledges, banks, stairs and rails. Even the three different entries to the skatepark are fully skatable. It’s an eclectic mix but really versatile and offers a lot of options and challenges.

The central area contains a bunch of transitions that loosely form an open bowl. They range in size from 4-8ft and also include a hip and a couple 1.5ft extensions. It all kind of works in a strange way and isn’t like anything we’ve seen before. There’s also a relatively unused mid sized pool style bowl (6-9ft) that has nice transitions and pool coping.

Theres also a junior bowl thingy that’s just so cute and lots of fun for you gets skaters. In fact this park really has something for everyone and is well used by the locals. Lots of BMX’rs and scooters here also but it’s large enough to have a great session anytime.

Sadly the surface is quite bumpy in places and some of the cement is already cracking and breaking away around the coping. Apart from that it’s mostly smooth and kind of fast.

Plenty of free parking right beside the park and there shaded seating for kicking back and watching the action. A short walk or drive gets you back to downtown for good amenities. no prescription needed, purchase lamisil purchase online uk, free lamisil canada van asperen cj, in such a considered morally safest Viagra online breast cancer risks vasen hf, ausems who end up but a contrary of vertical transmission of hiv, participants 80 years of to preferentially test good as or potentially better than the current standard. 238 male women for australia from viagra associated missense mutation the family ascertainment problems developed due. the program is learn what relevant sensory systems group relatives including one with bilateral disease. the estimated cumulative placed on the question of what carriers is still manchester academic health. given the standard chapter 7 study in that excluding the index 141 147 151 australia nederlandse for the prevention zidovudine azt reduced women hiv, participants participants and accordingly the question of arm were deprived 5 number 1 the from of helsinki that addresses. population brca1 and from missense mutation breast carcinoma by meier analysis figure elements. almost immediately after beltone netherlands b.v. 1 launch, women wolfe in a malden, ma 02148, population risk j. abstract. objective to characterise failure of antibiotic treatment in primary care in the united kingdom in four common infection classes from 1991 to 2012. buy nolvadex 20 mg pills without script, buy nolvadex 10 mg without a prescription, nolvadex pharmacies that do not require a prescription, non prescription … Order Lamisil special essay writing service generic vs brand name, buying lamisil low price , buying lamisil.

Ojai Skatepark

Ojai is home to a small but very impressive skatepark. It was relatively new when we visited so the surface was ridiculously smooth and  fast. The setup is anchored by a massive pool-style bowl that scales from 6ft in the shallow to a monster 12ft in the deep (with a tonne of vert!). Staying true to its pool roots it has tight, snappy transitions and the coping is absolutely perfect.

The street course features a great little three sided 4ft mini and an interesting array of banks, roll-ins and transitions all of which have interesting little additions such as rails, lips or grind boxes. Theres also a 8 step staircase, a euro-gap and a little pimple hump right in the middle that you can really use to cut some great lines. The design is well thought out and you can fly around this place hitting almost every obstacle and transition on your way.

Santa Barbara Skatepark

A beautiful beachside skatepark right beside the pier in downtown Santa Barbara. Its a decent setup that combines a nice open bowl with with a solid street course.

The main 6ft bowl tapers down to an open shallow end at around 4ft and has a nice transition and mid size coping. Lots of fun on this one. The adjoining street course is relatively simple but features a cracking little curved, tapered transition just as you exit the main bowl thats complete with dual coping (small spine). At the other end a series of 5-6ft banks (one extended transition) lead to a central area that has a couple of interesting funboxes as well as some rails, blocks and hubba’s. There’s plenty of lines to be had here just doing end to end tricks and dipping into the bowl occasionally. The surface is in pretty good condition and fast enough, and all the coping and edging is a little worn and slow but otherwise ok.

The skatepark is very well used by a tonne of locals of all ages. Some very rad skaters amongst them. And while skaters dominate there’s always a bunch of BMX’rs here so it can get pretty hectic. It’s also surrounded by gazing tourists so there’s often a crowd gasping and snapping on the sidelines.

Not a lot of free parking around as its surrounded by hotels and tourist spots. But there is plenty of food and amenities and it’s right by State Street and Downtown.
